Characteristics of Multimodal Transportation and Associated Risks
Abstract
The article discusses the main characteristics of multimodal transportation, which is an integrated logistics system that includes the use of several modes of transport. Particular attention is paid to key features such as the use of a single contract, container standardization, integration of digital technologies and route flexibility. The advantages of multimodal transportation are also analyzed, including cost efficiency, environmental friendliness and accessibility.
Along with this, the main risks associated with multimodal transportation are highlighted, including logistical, legal, technical, financial and environmental aspects. The article proposes approaches to risk management, such as cargo insurance, process automation, monitoring and route planning.
The work emphasizes the relevance of multimodal transportation in modern supply chains, focusing on the need to balance their benefits and associated risks to ensure the sustainability of logistics operations.
