ETHICAL GUIDELINES

Authorship

The authors of an article must be individuals who have made a significant contribution to the research. Only those who have actively participated in the conduct and preparation of the research should be listed as authors.

Authorship Criteria

Authorship must be based on the following criteria:

  • Development of the research concept and design;

  • Conduct of the research and analysis of the data;

  • Writing of the article and approval of its final version;

  • The order of authorship must be agreed upon by all authors and clearly stated in the article.

Conflicts of Interest

The international scientific journal "Journal of Philological Studies" is committed to reliable scientific research and the principles of transparency. Therefore, authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest. Conflicts of interest refer to situations in which personal, financial, or other interests may influence publication decisions.

All parties must comply with the following rules to prevent such situations:

1. Authors: Must disclose any personal or financial interests that could influence the preparation or publication of the research. This information should be stated in the submitted manuscript or in the cover letter to the editorial office.

2. Editors: If they have personal or professional relationships with any author that could affect their objectivity, they must disclose this and refrain from participating in the evaluation process.

3. Reviewers: If they identify a conflict of interest in the manuscripts they are reviewing, they must immediately inform the editorial board and decline the review.

4. Corrective Measures: The journal will take appropriate action in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to prevent conflicts of interest and unethical behavior.

5. Disclosure: When necessary, information about conflicts of interest will be disclosed at the time of publication and communicated to readers.

Plagiarism and Research Misconduct

Plagiarism is the use of other individuals’ work or ideas without proper citation. Authors must ensure that their submitted manuscripts are original and that all sources are appropriately cited. Research misconduct includes data fabrication, falsification, misrepresentation of results, or other unethical behavior. If such violations are detected, strict measures will be taken.

Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools

This policy has been developed in response to the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI)–based technologies. Its purpose is to ensure transparency and responsibility for authors, reviewers, editors, and readers.

For Authors

Authors may use AI tools ethically during the preparation of scientific manuscripts; however, such tools cannot replace human thinking, analysis, or scholarly evaluation.

When using AI tools, authors must:

  • Verify the accuracy and objectivity of the generated information;

  • Edit the generated content and ensure it reflects their original academic perspective;

  • Declare the name of the AI tool used and its purpose in an “AI Use Statement,” which must be included in the Methods section of the article;

  • Ensure the protection of personal and confidential data and review the terms of use of the AI tools employed;

  • Understand that the use of AI tools does not reduce the author’s responsibility for the content and does not grant authorship to AI tools. Full responsibility for the manuscript remains with the author(s);

  • The use of AI tools to generate images and graphics is not permitted.

For Reviewers

Reviewers must treat submitted manuscripts as confidential documents and must not upload them to any AI tools, as this may pose risks related to confidentiality, copyright, and ethical violations. AI tools cannot replace scientific evaluation and critical thinking. Reviews must be prepared by humans, and reviewers bear full responsibility for their assessments.

For Editors

Editors must not upload submitted manuscripts to AI tools, as this may violate authors’ confidentiality rights. Scientific evaluation of manuscripts must be conducted solely under human supervision. If an editor identifies a violation of the AI policy, it must be reported immediately to the editorial board.

Use of AI During the Journal’s Publishing Process

The journal may use AI tools at technical and editorial stages only in compliance with data confidentiality, copyright, and ethical principles. These tools may be used for:

  • Checking compliance with formatting and technical requirements;

  • Identifying suitable reviewers based on subject relevance;

  • Supporting proofreading and language editing processes.

In all cases, final decisions and evaluations are made under human supervision.

Data Confidentiality

Research data must be kept confidential to protect privacy. The confidentiality of research results and the identities of participants must be ensured. Access to research data is permitted only to authorized and relevant individuals.

Publication Ethics

Articles published in the international scientific journal "Journal of Philological Studies" directly reflect the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions supporting them. All participants in the publication process — authors, editors, and reviewers — must adhere to ethical standards. Honesty and transparency must be ensured throughout the publication process. Research and publication results must be presented fully and accurately. The journal’s ethical policies are based on the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Principles of Best Practice in Editorial Policies.

Guidelines for Research Involving Vulnerable Participants

Safety and Data Protection: The protection of data and adherence to safety standards for vulnerable participants must be ensured. Such participants may include the elderly, children, patients, and other vulnerable groups. Confidentiality of personal data must be protected and compliance with relevant legislation must be ensured.

Informed Consent: Informed consent must be obtained from vulnerable participants, and participants must fully understand the purpose, procedures, risks, and benefits of the research. Consent must be given freely, without coercion.

Support and Care: Special support and care must be provided for vulnerable participants. Researchers must take measures to protect the physical and psychological well-being of participants.

Ethical Conduct of Research: Research must be conducted in accordance with ethical standards, and all ethical principles related to vulnerable participants must be strictly observed.

Protection of Rights: The rights of vulnerable participants must be protected, and participant welfare must remain a top priority throughout the research process.
