Application of Artificial Intelligence Technologies in

Smart Manufacturing Systems

Zamina Asgarova

Abstract. Digital transformation in modern industrial enterprises creates new technological opportunities for organizing, managing, and optimizing production processes. In this context, artificial intelligence technologies serve as one of the key components of smart manufacturing systems. Machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, intelligent robots, and digital twin technologies enable the monitoring of production equipment, the assessment of product quality, the early detection of technical failures, and the efficient use of resources. The aim of this study is to systematize the application areas of artificial intelligence technologies in smart manufacturing systems, their impact on operational efficiency, and the main challenges encountered during their implementation. The study employs scientific literature review, a comparative approach, and conceptual synthesis. The analysis indicates that artificial intelligence not only facilitates the automation of production processes but also strengthens data-driven decision-making, predictive maintenance, and the flexibility of manufacturing systems. Nevertheless, data quality, system integration, cybersecurity, initial investment costs, and the explainability of algorithms remain factors limiting the widespread adoption of these technologies. The article proposes a gradual digitalization strategy, reliable data infrastructure, and an approach based on human–machine collaboration to support the effective implementation of artificial intelligence in industrial enterprises.
