Career Choices of Students in Inclusive Education

Makhmar Valizade

Abstract. This article examines the psychological and social challenges faced by students in inclusive education during the process of career choice. One of the main objectives of the analysis was to determine the level of proper career orientation among students in this category and to identify the role of the school environment, parents, and specialists in this process. The research was conducted using a mixed-method methodology integrating qualitative and quantitative approaches. Surveys, observations, and semi-structured interviews were used as data collection tools. According to the survey results, 85% of the students did not demonstrate confidence in career choice due to indecisiveness, lack of self-confidence, and insufficient information. Only 25% of the participants stated that they were able to clearly identify their future profession, while 70% noted that they had received no career guidance support at school. Observations revealed weak self-expression skills and passive participation in lessons among the majority of students. During the interviews, class teachers and speech therapists reported difficulties in identifying students’ individual interests, while school psychologists emphasized the inadequacy of psychopedagogical support systems and resources. The findings of the study showed that psychopedagogical support systems aimed at inclusive students have not yet been fully established in schools. Therefore, the organization of individual consultations, the implementation of skills and interest assessments, and the promotion of career-oriented activities are considered essential.
