Development Characteristics of the Transition to a Green
Economy in Azerbaijan
Abstract
The concept of “green economy” is based on a concept that ensures the consideration of each of the economic, social and environmental aspects in order to improve the sustainable well-being of people and meet their needs. The study of the concept of "green economy" is very relevant in terms of the impact of climate change on the economy and sustainable development issues, which are one of the main environmental problems facing our world.
One of the main priorities of the socio-economic development of Azerbaijan, known as an oil and gas country with energy carriers in the world, is to become a country of “clean environment” and “green growth”. The main direction of the country's state policy related to the development of this area is to achieve the transformation of Karabakh and the East Zangezur region into a “green energy” zone as an integral part of the "green growth" concept.
For the economy to be “green”, it is necessary for it to respond to the following factors: the principles of sustainable development are included in economic decisions; environmentally friendly products are produced, services are provided, and these replace non-"green" services and products; is “green” compared to traditional competition; declares its commitment to environmental principles in commercial activities.
The article highlights the development of the “green economy” in Azerbaijan as an important issue and indicates the directions for the realization of the country's socio-economic development in the next decade in accordance with national priorities in this direction.
