Philosophy of Law: the Social Meaning and Ethical Function of Law in

Greek Thought

Abstract

It is known that law and its inherent values constitute the main source of research for both Greek and Western philosophers. Philosophers have shown not only practical aspects of law, but also its invisible sides. In their opinion, law is not only a set of laws, law in all cases serves as a set of values for the existing world. These values are an important factor that matters both in the personal and social life of a person. This article analyzes legal values and their social principles in both legal and philosophical aspects, referring to the works of Greek and Western philosophers.

As far as we know, legal philosophy is a science that studies the value of norms associated with law. Here, along with various topics (law and morality, law and state, law and politics, law and religion, etc.), the main function of legal norms is one of the topics that needs constant research for the public. Since the key task of law is, first of all, a fair and conscientious study of any issue, the formation of a public personality, adhering to established moral values. The present study arose precisely from this need.
