The Georgian Factor in the Epic “Koroghlu”

Abstract

The article examines the Georgian factor, plots and motifs related to Georgia in “Koroghlu”, one of the famous Azerbaijani folk and heroic epics. It is shown that in oral folk literature, the friendly relations between these two peoples are reflected in various ways. As in the life of ancient neighboring peoples throughout history, it is possible to see traces of friendship and neighborly relations in oral folk literature. In particular, in Azerbaijani epics, including the events that took place in "Koroghlu", the name of Georgia is also mentioned, and in the plots and descriptions of these epics we come across the glorification of these places. Also because throughout history, the ancient Turkish land of Borchaly has been located in this area, and the fact that our compatriots live in close proximity to the Georgians brings them even closer. The artistic thought of the people knows no boundaries. As in the epics "Kitabi Dada Gorgud", "Ashug Garib", "Asli and Karam" and others, in "Koroghlu" a wide place is given to the descriptions of Tbilisi and Georgia. Part of the events in the epic take place precisely here - in Georgia. The positive image of Georgia in the epic, the description and glorification of natural beauties, are rooted in friendship and mutual trust between peoples. The impact of the epic on Georgian written literature is investigated. Examples of Georgian poetry, prose and dramaturgy written on this topic are included in the study. In short, the study, research and dissemination of the epic serve to further strengthen the friendship between the Azerbaijani and Georgian peoples, and to develop Azerbaijani-Georgian literary masterpieces at a higher level.
