The Role of Neuroplasticity in Preventing Brain Aging

Abstract

The brain is a dynamic organ that undergoes functional and structural changes throughout life under the influence of various factors. The aging process also enhances these changes, but the brain's neuroplasticity can help prevent or slow down these changes. Neuroplasticity plays a crucial role in protecting and restoring various brain functions against brain aging. This article will examine the effects of the aging process on the brain, the protective functions of neuroplasticity, and ways to improve this natural mechanism against aging in the brain.

Neural plasticity is defined as the ability of structures in the brain or nervous system to change functionally and structurally, and to respond to internal and external stimuli. In its simplest form, it is the ability of the nervous system to change without increasing the number of cells. A neuron that is stimulated from the outside or inside stimulates other neurons around it and causes them to undergo neuroplastic changes. Thus, plasticity is not limited to the cellular level, but affects many areas, from molecular structure to systems and even behavior.

Keywords: neuroplasticity, neural plasticity, brain aging, formation of new neurons, age-related development of nerve cells
