The Study of the Effectiveness of Extracurricular Programs Provided by Scouting Activities in the Social-emotional Character Development of Children in the Era of Innovation

Abstract

The challenges encountered by children in their social-emotional development have raised non-formal education models' prominence under the context of the dynamic nature of modern technological innovations and rapid development. This study evaluates the impact of scouting activities on children’s social-emotional behavioral development and its potential as an extracurricular in innovation. Through a very experience-based and value-based approach, scouting is considered an innovative model for non-formal education and development, which instills empathy, cooperation, responsibility, and leadership in children. This study's findings were derived from a survey administered in June 2024 to scout leaders and other education professionals responsible for the educational initiatives of the Azerbaijan Scouts Association. Data were collected by means of a questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. This article covers the role of technological innovations in training and development without compromising the fundamental tenets of scouting. Its findings suggest that scouting is a relevant and effective extracurricular educational tool for promoting children’s social-emotional well-being and that scouting-based program activities can be adapted to new curricular environments.
