Trends in Azerbaijani Theatre After the Independence Period
Abstract
After the independence period, different styles began to emerge in Azerbaijani theatre. Especially after the soviet era, there has been a renewed interest in national heritage and national plays. The processes taking place in the world of theatre and the emergence of new theatrical directions are also beginning to influence Azerbaijani theatre. During the mentioned time frame, innovative directors stood out for their close involvement in the process. Since that period, the creative activity of Huseynaga Atakishiyev, Vagif Ibrahimoghlu, Azer Pasha Nematov, Jannat Salimova, Mehriban Alekbarzadeh, Bahram Osmanov, Bakhtiyar Khanizadeh has held special significance in Azerbaijani theatre. The directors we have mentioned have always stood out in art for their professional work. Some of them had even established new-style theaters in Azerbaijan as a result of their activities. Among these theaters, we can mention the Baku Chamber Theater, the YUGH Theater, the Pantomime Theater. When we look at the history of our theater, we see that, unfortnately, some of these theaters have ceased their activities. However, some of them are still active today and hold an important place in our theatre culture. In this regard, the post-Independence period holds an important role in the history of our theatre.
