Erdogan Koycu
Abstract. This study aims to examine the sections on “Islam and Faith” in Rehber İlmihâli (Guide Catechism) by Hasan Yavaş. Yavaş, who wrote five hundred and forty-eight columns and five books. He currently writes columns for Türkiye Newspaper and produces Ramadan programs for TGRT. Yavas has written five works: "Catechism for Everyone", "Prayer Book," "Guide Catechism", "Guide for Women," and "Great Women of Islam and a Guide for Young People." He has compiled his “Guide Catechism” in ten chapters. We conducted our research on the following topics: "Advice for Young People" and "How to be a Good Muslim?" in the introduction. "Youth should be appreciated," he addresses in the first chapter, "Islam, the beautiful religion," and "What should our faith be like?" in the second. Yavas attempts to explain the fundamental principles of faith and the foundations of worship in a simple language in his work. Our research examines Hasan Yavas's life and works, as well as the “Islam and Faith” section of the Guide Catechism. The factor that motivated Yavas to write Guide Catechism is the fundamental principle mentioned in The Holy Quran and hadith: "al-emri bi al-maruf va al-nehyi al-munkar" (enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong). Hasan Yavaş's work, Guide Catechism, appeals to a broad audience because it addresses issues of faith, worship, conduct, and morality. Despite its numerous editions, both domestically and internationally, the lack of any book, article, or paper addressing the Guide Catechism paved the way for this research.
