Azerbaijani National Press in the Tbilisi Literary Environment
Abstract
The article examines our national press, which emerged in the literary environment of Tbilisi (Tbilisi – M.Ch.). It is shown that since the Caucasian Viceroyalty was located in the city of Tbilisi, it also became a cultural center of various peoples. The creation of schools, theaters, newspapers and publishing houses has become increasingly intensive. True, this process has been somewhat slow in our country compared to other nations. However, it is also clear that in many cultural events the literary environment of Tbilisi has preceded the national literary environment - that is, the literary environment in Azerbaijan. The emergence of the Azerbaijani press in Tbilisi not only provided enlightenment to Azerbaijanis living here, but also to other Azerbaijanis living in Azerbaijan and abroad, who were informed about the literary and cultural environment. Thus, many of these press organs went beyond the geographical boundaries of their publication and played an important role in the lives of the Turkic peoples living in Central Asia, the Ottoman Empire, and Siberia. Press organs such as “Ziya”, “Ziyayi-Qafqaziyya”, “Kashkul” formed the national identity and religious consciousness of a large part of the people. Despite being published in Tbilisi, the “Sharqi-rus” newspaper and the “Molla Nasreddin” magazine, as the first daily newspaper of Azerbaijan, also published articles originating from Azerbaijan and became a part of the Azerbaijani literary process. This tradition was later continued in Azerbaijani-language press outlets published in Georgia and continues with dignity today in the example of the 105-year-old "Georgia" newspaper.
