Characteristic Features of the National Jazz Art of Azerbaijan
Abstract
Jazz, an interesting creative field rich is colorful style, genres, forms and style features. By the end of the 19th century, jazz emerged in America a result of influence of African folk music, the black population brought from Africa to America as a labor force towards, later spreading to Europe and other parts of the world. The presented article draws special attention to this and addresses the facts in the direction of the formation, formation, and development of jazz art. The importance of jazz art becoming a main component of musical culture in a short time is emphasized.
The folk music of Azerbaijan, national mughams, has unique improvisational capabilities and carry significant form and genre characteristics. The breadth of improvisational capabilities in mughams reveals the ways to use these pearls of art, which are the philosophical product of folk thinking, in a wider scope. Since jazz art is also unambiguously based on improvisation, as a result of the fusion of Azerbaijani mughams and Afro-American jazz art, new style and genre features emerge, which first made itself felt in the jazz compositions of artists such as T.Guliyev, evolving in the creativity of the genius V.Mustafazadeh, creating jazz-mugham compositions. This sharply distinguished Azerbaijani jazz from the jazz art of other nations, revealing its national essence and belonging. This aspect is specifically considered in the article, and attention is paid to the importance of the new jazz-mugham direction as a result of the application of the improvisational possibilities of national moments. Examples of mugham improvisational compositions of Azerbaijani jazz masters are given.
The works of Azerbaijan composers in any genre are based on national lad-maqam, and they bring together folk music and classical European music traditions in an original way. The national basis of any, especially vocal, works is explained by their basis in a certain moment. The article draws attention to the importance of the jazz-mugham genre in this regard. It is emphasized that original creative achievements are achieved as a result of improvising not only the basis of such compositions, but also on the points on which they are based.
The article, which also notes the manifestation of jazz elements in the composer's work, notes the prospects for the creation of significant works in classical genres and forms, starting from this direction.
