Classification of Azerbaijani Toponyms
Abstract
One of the most important problems of modern linguistics is the study of Azerbaijani onomastics. It is known that since the second half of the 20th century, a lot of research has been done in this area. Thousands of onomastic units of Turkic-Azerbaijani origin of both the Republic of Azerbaijan and the historical territories of Azerbaijan have been involved in the analysis, and very important ideas from a linguistic point of view have been expressed in onomastic scientific research. Despite all this, there are still things to be done and issues to be studied in this area. This series includes the study of historical onomatology, the study of archaic elements in onomastic units, as well as the conduct of a complete onomastic study of the regions that were historically Azerbaijani lands.
Keywords: onomatology, toponym, ethnonym, onomastic unit with archaic appellation
