Development of Emotional Intelligence in Preschool Children
Abstract
Emotional intelligence means that a person recognizes his own feelings, understands how he feels, manages his feelings, and at the same time understands the feelings of others. Preschool age is a very important age for children to learn these skills. During this period, children learn to share, wait for turns, and work together while playing games, communicating with friends, and collaborating. The sooner children learn to recognize their feelings, the better they will be able to build friendships, resolve disputes calmly and fairly, and treat others with respect. A child who can recognize and manage his feelings becomes calmer, less stressed, and kinder. The role of parents and teachers is irreplaceable. They can use simple methods to teach children these skills. For example: games about emotions, reading stories and discussing how the characters feel, preparing a feelings chart showing how they feel every day, and holding group discussions on friendship, kindness and various topics. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the formation and development process of emotional intelligence in preschool children, to identify the main factors affecting this process, namely family, teacher, environment and pedagogical methods, and to present effective pedagogical approaches that can be used in this direction. The study also aims to show how emotional intelligence affects children's social, psychological and educational success. A combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches can be used in this study. Data can be collected through observation, teacher notes, children's responses and graphic registration. As a result, the development of emotional intelligence allows children to be more resilient to stress, succeed in social relationships and show better results in school life. This skill helps children develop into healthier, more compassionate, and more just individuals, not just as individuals, but as members of society. Thus, emotional intelligence is essential for children to be successful in both their personal and social lives and should be developed from an early age.
