Free Economic Zones in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic: the Beginning
of a New Economic Leap
Abstract
The article discusses the potential and prospects that the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, as an integral part of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has formed in the context of the country's new economic realities. These prospects are complemented, in particular, by the processes accompanying the creation of Free Economic Zones (FEZ) and their transformation into a logistics center. In this regard, the scientific and theoretical foundations of FEZs are given, and their efficiency features for the economy of the autonomous republic are presented. At the same time, the economic importance of the autonomous republic as a logistics center is touched upon. It is shown that both the FEZs and the logistics center create a more favorable basis for the full and complete integration of the economy of the autonomous republic into the national economy of the country. The potential of the economy of the autonomous republic in the effective provision of all these processes is shown.
It is substantiated that the coordinated development of the leading sectors of the economy in the autonomous republic, including agriculture and industry, and the location of the territory on the historical Silk Road are of great importance. Also, the operation of the international airport is selected due to its very important aspects both in the regulation of the creation and operation of FEZs and in the issues of its formation as a logistics center.
