General Characteristics of Nakhchivan Musical Folklore
Abstract
From the most ancient historical periods to the present day, folk songs and folk dances living in Nakhchivan reflect the specific musical style and performing traditions of this region. Folk songs and dances have emerged and lived in connection with ethnography, mythology, folk life, labor activity, lifestyle, holidays and ceremonies. In this regard, Nakhchivan folk dances have attracted the attention of folklorists, philologists, ethnographers, archaeologists, various articles have been written about this rich heritage, and certain ideas have been put forward about their history, etymology, ethnography, poetic text.
Nakhchivan has a very rich folklore environment and traditions. Almost every region of this land is distinguished by its own folklore genres and folklore-performing traditions. The fact that Nakhchivan is the region where the ancient yalli genre is most widespread has also been confirmed by scientific evidence.
Musical folklore in Nakhchivan has developed widely for centuries and has spread to all regions of Azerbaijan. The region's ceremonial music, ashug and mugham art have also enriched the traditional music of Azerbaijan with their colorful genres. The genre diversity of Nakhchivan musical culture has directly determined the directions of musical performance. In short, the directions and types of musical performance in Nakhchivan have emerged and developed in connection with musical genres.
One branch of Nakhchivan's musical-performance traditions is related to musical folklore. Nakhchivan's musical folklore, which belongs to its own regional local traditions, attracts attention due to its genre characteristics, means of expression and performance qualities.
In this regard, a deeper study of the specific genre characteristics of examples such as "Hakhishta", which are widespread in the Nakhchivan folklore performance tradition, is a necessary issue.
The study of the Yalli dance, which has a special place in Nakhchivan folklore, is one of the important issues facing ethnomusicology. The historical roots of yallis are connected with the ceremonial culture of Azerbaijan, opening the way for in-depth research in various directions - mythology, worldview, ethnocultural system, musical thinking and performance. In particular, the performance aspect of yallis requires a complex approach and research in interaction with their musical content.
