Heydar Aliyev's Role in Strengthening the Education System in Azerbaijan in the 1970s and 1980s
Abstract
The period of 1969-1982, when Nationwide Leader Heydar Aliyev headed the Azerbaijan SSR, is characterized by his particular emphasis on the development of education, science, and culture, as well as on enhancing the intellectual potential of the people. This stage is regarded as a renaissance in our national history, closely connected with the rise in the population’s educational level, the formation of fundamental science, and the advancement of national culture. At the core of all these processes was the strengthening of the education system and its effective utilization. The years 1969-1982 marked a qualitatively new stage in the development of Azerbaijani science and education. Especially in the early 1970s and 1980s, a solid material and technical foundation was created for higher education institutions, and significant steps were taken toward the modernization of traditions in science and education.
The article analyzes the special care and attention paid by Nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev to the field of science and education during his leadership of the republic in the 1970s and 80s. During this period, progress was made in the field of science and education, and the foundation for the preparation of the national personnel base for the future of Azerbaijan was laid.
