In the Context of Globalization, the Application of Political and Economic sanctions
Abstract
This scientific research is aimed at analyzing the effects of globalization on political and economic relations in the modern era, as well as the relevance of international sanctions in this context from an analytical perspective. The further strengthening of international interactions related to globalization does not limit the impact of the applied sanctions only to the target states but also opens the way to institutional changes at the global and regional levels. Currently, the implementation mechanisms, legal bases and humanitarian consequences of sanctions, which act as one of the non-military coercive instruments of international law often cause disagreements between lawyers and politicians. The research work systematically analyzes the classification of political and economic sanctions, their legal bases and the implementation policies of international organizations (UN, European Union, African Union, USA, etc.). In addition, the social, economic and legal consequences of these measures are evaluated on the example of countries such as Iran, Venezuela and North Korea. The sanctions policies of international organizations are compared in terms of legal basis, implementation mechanism and effectiveness, and the impact of sanctions on human rights and civil society is extensively analyzed.
The findings of this research indicate that international sanctions function not merely as instruments of political leverage but also serve a structural purpose within the broader institutional landscape of international law. Nevertheless, minimizing their social and humanitarian consequences and reinforcing the underlying legal standards requires the implementation of governance mechanisms that are more transparent, inclusive, and efficient. The study’s conclusions offer valuable insights for advancing international legal frameworks and enhancing the overall safeguarding of human rights.
