Main Criteria for Teaching the Azerbaijani Language to Foreign Students
Abstract
The education system of Azerbaijan is constantly undergoing radical changes. The leadership of the republic is doing everything in its power to develop education, improve its quality, and raise it to the level of education in the most advanced countries of the world, providing both material and moral support. The article discusses various methods and techniques of teaching the Azerbaijani language to foreign students at the Azerbaijan Medical University in accordance with modern requirements. The increase in the number of foreign students from different countries who come to study at the Azerbaijan Medical University requires the application of new methods and opportunities in teaching the Azerbaijani language. Teaching the Azerbaijani language to foreign students is comprehensive in nature and includes practical, educational, and developmental goals achieved through the formation of students’ necessary language and speech skills in reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The development of skills and abilities in each type of speech activity has a certain specificity, taking into account the close relationship between listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Systematicity, consistency, awareness, accessibility, continuity, consideration of the mother tongue, communicative focus, shaping students’ oral and written professional speech, developing speech skills in professional situations, and teaching how to conduct dialogue with people of both the same and different professions are the main principles and goals of language teaching.
