New Approaches to Protecting Human Rights in the Process of
Applying Political and Economic Sanctions
Abstract
This scientific article aims to analyze the effects of globalization on political and economic relations in the modern era, as well as the relevance of international sanctions in this context, as well as the issue of protecting human rights from an analytical perspective. The further strengthening of international interactions related to globalization does not limit the impact of the sanctions applied only to the target states, but also opens the way to institutional changes at the global and regional levels. Currently, the implementation mechanisms, legal bases and humanitarian consequences of sanctions, which act as one of the non-military coercive instruments of international law, often cause disagreements between lawyers and politicians.
The article systematically analyzes the classification of political and economic sanctions, their legal bases and the implementation policies of international organizations (UN, European Union, African Union, USA, etc.). The sanctions policies of international organizations are compared in terms of legal basis, implementation mechanism and effectiveness, and the impact of sanctions on human rights and civil society is widely analyzed.
The results of this study show that international sanctions serve not only as instruments of political influence, but also serve a structural purpose within the broader institutional landscape of international law. However, minimizing their social and humanitarian consequences and strengthening basic legal standards requires the implementation of more transparent, inclusive and effective governance mechanisms. The results of the study offer valuable insights for developing international legal frameworks and strengthening the overall protection of human rights.
