Problems in Writing and Presenting Scientific Articles
in the Azerbaijani Language
Abstract
Academic literacy is a key component of scientific activity in modern universities and plays a vital role in developing academic communicative competence. This competence is cultivated through the preparation of texts, writing of scientific articles in accordance with international standards, and understanding of metadiscourse. Metadiscourse encompasses linguistic resources that facilitate interaction between the author and the reader, comprising interactive and interactional dimensions. Interactive metadiscourse organizes the text’s structure and information flow, guiding the reader, while interactional metadiscourse expresses the author’s stance and promotes engagement with the reader. In the current era of information abundance, systematic examination of interactive metadiscourse is increasingly important.
In Azerbaijani scientific writing, common challenges include selecting an appropriate topic, maintaining linguistic and structural clarity, adhering to academic style, presenting results effectively, and avoiding repetition. Scientific articles should clearly reflect research objectives, methodology, findings, and recommendations, following a structured format that includes an abstract, introduction, main body, results, and references. The abstract should concisely convey the study’s main content and capture the reader’s initial interest. Acceptance of articles in international journals depends on authors’ experience, writing skills, and adherence to global standards. Addressing these challenges enhances not only the professional development of young researchers but also the country’s scientific reputation.
