Psychological and cognitive analysis of foreign language learning difficulties
Abstract
Learning a foreign language is a complex process that includes cognitive, psychological and social aspects. This complex process creates a number of problems. This article deals with the issues of investigating those difficulties and analyzing them cognitively and psychologically. From the cognitive aspect, memory and cognitive issues, phonological issues, L1 interference and grammatical and lexical differences that appear at this time were reviewed. From a psychological point of view, the problem was investigated by analyzing motivation and a number of other emotional states. It can be concluded that the reasons for failure in learning a new foreign language are lack of motivation and self-confidence, cases of using the mother tongue more than needed, internal anxiety, stress, perception of feedback given to mistakes as criticism, personality and cultural factors, social pressure, etc. In order to effectively solve these problems, it is necessary to motivate learners, teach them to manage their anxiety, and create a supportive social and emotional environment using more creative and inclusive learning methods.
