The Enlightened Women of Irevan
Nurana Teymurlu
Abstract. The article systematically studies the life and activities of our female intellectuals and educators who worked in the Irevan educational environment in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and the first decades of the Soviet era. It is noted that during this period, female educators, who played a unique role in the formation of the regional development model of the Azerbaijani women's movement, devoted themselves to both educational and pedagogical, social and cultural, and political and state spheres. They made a valuable contribution to the formation of women's education and cultural and educational movement by working as teachers, principals and directors in girls' schools operating in Irevan, and at the same time through the creation and development of the Irevan Azerbaijani Women's Club (1926). The study also systematically examines issues such as the stages of the pedagogical path of this generation, the versatility of their fields of activity, and the impact of the repressions of 1937-1938 and the deportation of 1948 on their fate. The main conclusion of the article is that this generation is characterized by lifelong pedagogical devotion, multidisciplinary social activity, commitment to national culture, and openness to modern secular education, while also serving as a valuable historical and pedagogical reference base for the development of the modern Azerbaijani women's movement and the formation of women's education policy.
