The Impact of Physiotherapy Procedures Used on the Rehabilitation Process after Knee Injuries in Football Players on the Dynamics of Recovery
Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of physiotherapy procedures in the rehabilitation process of 20 football players aged 18-25 who had sustained grade I-II medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries. The participants were divided into two groups: the first group (n=10) received standard physiotherapy procedures, while the second group (n=10) received isometric exercises in addition to the same physiotherapy treatment. The treatment program lasted 10 days. The results showed that pain intensity decreased, knee joint range of motion increased, and overall functional recovery improved in both groups. However, the recovery dynamics were more favorable in the group that received isometric exercises alongside physiotherapy. In this group, pain reduction was observed more rapidly, the indicators on the 10th day were better, and knee flexion angle was restored more effectively by the 90th day. At the same time, the time required to return to light running, full training, and official matches was shorter. The findings indicate that combining physiotherapy procedures with isometric exercises significantly accelerates rehabilitation and improves the quality of functional recovery in young football players after MCL injuries.
