The Place of Zal Khan Mosque in the Architectural Heritage of Yerevan

Abstract

Zal Khan Mosque, located in Yerevan, is one of the significant examples of the region’s rich historical and multicultural architectural heritage. This monument was constructed in the 17th century and played an important role in the urban development of the city by reflecting the architectural traditions of its time. In terms of its layout, dome system, decorative elements, and construction materials, the mosque demonstrates the characteristic features of the Azerbaijani-Islamic architectural school.

Zal Khan Mosque has served not only as a place of religious worship but also as an important center for social and cultural life. Although it has undergone various changes as a result of historical processes, the monument remains a valuable source for studying the former architectural appearance of Yerevan and the ethno-cultural diversity of the region.

Occupying an important place in the architectural heritage of Yerevan, Zal Khan Mosque holds great significance in terms of preserving historical memory and studying national-cultural heritage. At the same time, the monument provides an important scientific basis for examining the interaction of architectural traditions that existed in the region. The study of Zal Khan Mosque also contributes to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage for future generations.
