The Role of Neologisms in the Dynamic Development of

Language and Sociolinguistic Analysis

Abstract

The article examines the role of neologisms — newly introduced lexical units within a language — as indicators of its social essence and dynamic development. The primary objective of the study is to analyze the mechanisms of neologism formation, their functional features, and their influence on linguistic innovation within media discourse, particularly in journalistic texts.

Scientific and technological advancement, together with globalization, has generated a growing need for the designation of new concepts and phenomena in various languages, including Azerbaijani and Spanish. This process contributes to the expansion of the lexical system, enhances the semantic potential of communication, and reinforces the flexibility of linguistic structures.

The research provides a comparative analysis of the classification and formation of neologisms in Spanish, focusing on both borrowed and internally generated lexical units. Special attention is given to English-derived terms which, through their extensive use in media and informal communication, have led to the emergence of diglossic tendencies — a differentiation between formal and informal lexical codes.
