The Role of Regional and InternatIonal Organizations in Turkey’s Relations with Asian and Afriucan Countries in the Contemporary Era
Abstract
In the contemporary international system, the consolidation of multipolarity, the advancement of globalization into a new phase and the growing influence of regional actors have compelled states to recalibrate their foreign policy priorities. Leveraging its geopolitical position, historical and cultural ties, and economic potential, the Republic of Turkey has strategically oriented its relations toward Asian and African countries. Active engagement in regional and international organizations has been instrumental in institutionalizing these relations and fostering deeper political, economic and humanitarian cooperation.
This study examines Turkey’s involvement in key multilateral frameworks, including the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, the Economic Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Organization of Turkic States, and ASEAN, as well as the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the East African Community. The analysis demonstrates that such platforms serve as strategic instruments within Turkey’s multi-vector foreign policy, enabling the country to consolidate its long-term and sustainable role in Asia and Africa while enhancing its influence in the global arena.
