The Role of the Shirazis the Ulama Family of Iraq in Relations with Iran
Abstract
The Islamic Republic of Iran's adoption of Shiism as the state ideology and the state's administration of Shia jurisprudential rules based on Shia doctrine further intensified the competition between different power centers based on the same tradition. One of the most important of these power centers is the Shirazi movement, which is distinguished by its traditional approach. In the period after the Islamic Revolution, Khomeini's concentration of all religious and political power under the guiding principle of "vilayat-i-fagih" was perceived as a challenge to the Marja, the traditional Shia institution of power. Thus, the regime, which is based on the concept of vilayat-i-fagih, which contradicts the traditional concept of power, faces a movement that accepts political Shiism but opposes the existing order.
