Trauma and Women in Zahid Saritorpag's Work "Do Not Cry Over the
Suicide of Birds"
Abstract
The article is dedicated to the analysis of the female character in the modern Azerbaijani writer Zahid Sarıtorpaq’s work “Do Not Weep for the Birds’ Suicide,” focusing on adolescent traumas, the impact of these psychological wounds on her later life, and how these elements are reflected in literature, particularly in prose. The article, centered around this novel, addresses the issue of the woman’s condition. It includes analyses regarding the negative effects of trauma on women's lives and how this topic is treated in prose. The author portrays the internal conflicts of the characters by highlighting the moral shortcomings brought about by psychological trauma in human life.
The interaction of trauma theories with literature is one of the important areas at the intersection of psychology and literature. Modern trauma theories seek to understand, explore, and find remedies for how human behavior responds to psychological trauma. Although these theories include several different approaches and each explains the effects of trauma on individuals and society from different aspects, the most widespread of them is the psychoanalytic theory. This approach was developed by the Austrian doctor-psychiatrist Z. Freud (1856-1939) and focused on the study of human psychological development, behavior, and emotional problems. He raised psychoanalysis to the level of a philosophical anthropological principle.
