On Translations of Adam Mickiewicz's Works
(Based on translations into Azerbaijani and Russian)
Abstract
The article briefly examines the role of artistic translation in the work of the Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz. The first part of the study discusses the time of appearance and stylistic features of the qasidas borrowed by the orientalist from the Eastern classics. It also touches upon the objective reasons for Mickiewicz's creative interest in the history of Eastern culture. The second part of the presented research material provides a comparative analysis of some translations of A. Mickiewicz's works on Eastern themes into the Azerbaijani and Russian languages. During the analysis, an attempt is made to determine the degree to which the author's style has been preserved by various translators. In the process of comparative study of individual works, special attention is paid to the issue of transferring characteristic oriental vocabulary and artistic and visual means.
