Saharan Urban Identity in Algeria: A Lever for Attractiveness and
Territorial Marketing
Abstract
This document discusses the creation and preservation of urban identity in Saharan cities, focusing on balancing modernization with the preservation of socio-cultural, architectural, and urban heritage to create an authentic image for these cities. It emphasizes the importance of adapting to the harsh desert climate and incorporating local customs into urban planning. The study uses Kevin Lynch's method of urban analysis to assess the urban spaces in the Ziban region of Algeria, identifying issues such as inaccessibility, lack of safety, absence of mixed-use development, illegibility, and a lack of distinct character. The document argues for the need to integrate elements of Saharan identity into urban design and territorial marketing to create unique and sustainable urban environments.
