The Concept of Nirvana in the Teachings of
Jainism and Buddhism
Abstract
The teachings of Jainism and Buddhism emphasize that it is possible to achieve nirvana through inner purification and mental peace. Both teachings take a simple lifestyle and ethical behavior as the basis for freedom from suffering and attachments. As a result, both teachings show that a person can reach nirvana and self-development through inner purification, ethical behavior, and freedom from worldly desires. While Jainism focuses more on physical and spiritual morality, purity, and non-harm, Buddhism is more based on inner peace, freedom from suffering, and finding the true truth.
