The Role of the Armenian Lobby and Diaspora in

Russian-Armenian Relations

Abstract

The Armenian lobby and diaspora play a significant role in shaping Russian-Armenian relations, leveraging historical, economic, and political ties between the two nations. The Armenian diaspora in Russia is one of the largest and most influential, contributing to bilateral relations through economic investments, cultural exchanges, and political lobbying. The Armenian lobby actively advocates for Armenia’s interests in Russia, particularly concerning security, trade, and regional geopolitics. It plays a key role in maintaining Russia's military and economic support for Armenia, especially in the context of the ongoing tensions in the South Caucasus. Additionally, Armenian diaspora organizations foster strong connections with Russian political and business elites, reinforcing cooperation in strategic sectors such as energy and defense. However, the influence of the Armenian lobby is not without challenges. Geopolitical shifts, Russia's broader regional strategies, and Armenia's increasing diversification of foreign partnerships sometimes create friction. While the diaspora and lobby work to maintain strong ties, the evolving dynamics of Russian foreign policy and Armenia’s pursuit of greater independence from Moscow can complicate their efforts.

The article discusses how the Armenian lobby and diaspora play a crucial role in Russian-Armenian relations, helping to maintain deep-rooted ties while navigating the complexities of modern geopolitics.

Keywords: armenian lobby, armenian diaspora, foreign policy of Russia, foreign policy of Armenian, armenian organizations.
