Issues of Social Content in Folklorestudies

 

Abstract

The word folklore is understood in both a narrow and a broad sense. In a narrow sense, folklore is understood as “oral folk creativity” or sometimes “oral folk literature”. “Folk literature” (halk edebiyatı), which is more often found in the philology of Turkic peoples, can actually cover only the oral, spoken part of the artistic texts of folk creativity. In Turkey, “folklore” is more often attributed to the anonymous “folk music” part of folk creativity and is used as a term denoting that field. In Russian philology, “folklore” is reflected in scientific literature such as “narodnoe ustnoe poeticheskoe tvorchestvo” (oral folk poetic creativity) or “narodnoe poeticheskoe tvorchestvo” (poetic folk creativity). Since the source of Azerbaijani philology is in close contact with Turkish and Russian philologies, the introduction and formation of the term "folklore" into the scientific circulation was also determined in connection with the mentioned sources. Because the name "Azerbaijani oral folk literature" reflects this reality. The article analyzes oral folk literature in a theoretical context.
