Jalil Mammadguluzadeh’s Heritage in Anar’s Creativity
Abstract
This article analyzes the main elements of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh’s heritage, including his struggle against superstition, ignorance, injustice, his ideas on National Freedom, and his journalistic promotion of Azerbaijanism. The principles of modernity in Mammadguluzadeh’s legacy are the central focus of the article, as they are reflected in folk writer Anar`s the numerous works.
The article examines the writings of folk writer Anar in various genres, not only in relation to Mammadguluzadeh’s work but also Azerbaijani classical masters of the written word in general. However, the main focus of analysis is writer Anar’s works dedicated to Jalil Mammadguluzadeh. It is noted that the essay “The Trouble of Understanding”, written by Anar in 1968 when he was still very young, was considered a literary event at the time, and a scholarly opinion was expressed regarding the content of this essay.
A key object of analysis in this article is the 30-page essay titled Eternal Mirza Jalil, written by Anar and published in the Encyclopedia of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh. In this essay, Anar briefly and succinctly presents a literary portrait of Mammadguluzadeh. The article analyzes both the subject matter and the artistic features of this essay. It is emphasized that Eternal Mirza Jalil truly embodies Mammadguluzadeh’s legacy, serving as a literary testament to his enduring significance.
Thus, the values extracted from Mammadguluzadeh’s heritage are fully realized in Anar’s journalistic work, which directs the modern, younger generation to engage with Mirza Jalil’s creative legacy.
