Abstract. This article provides an overview of the life and work of Süleyman Təkinər. Təkinər was instrumental in creating conditions for the protection of Azerbaijani legionnaires during World War II and for their continued residence in Germany after the war. Himself a legionnaire, Təkinər played an active role in the formation of the legion through his writings. Drawing on information from the German Federal Archives, the article also notes his time in US military captivity between 1945 and 1946. Despite the hardships he faced, Təkinər—a patriotic writer—bravely endured all manner of adversity. In addition to his life story, the author discusses Təkinər’s literary-critical essays. Particular attention is paid to his articles advocating for the purity of the Azerbaijani language and his enduring attachment to his mother tongue despite living abroad. The article also highlights his views on Huseyn Javid, Jalil Mammadguluzadeh, and Sabir. As noted by researchers (N. Yagublu, N. Jabbarli, A. Tahirli), the body of work of Süleyman Təkinər has not yet been fully explored. This article examines his life as a prisoner, the arduous path he traversed, his activities in the diaspora, and his role in Azerbaijani literary criticism.
