The Role of Literary Texts in German Language Lessons:
Didactic and Methodological Perspectives
Abstract
In recent years, the role of literary texts and fiction in foreign language education, especially in German language classes, has regained significance. The use of literary materials positively influences the development of students’ language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), as well as their ability to understand cultural values and different perspectives. The article emphasizes that literary texts serve not only as a tool for language learning but also as an important means of familiarizing students with the culture of the target language and supporting their emotional and intellectual development.
From a didactic and methodological perspective, such texts contribute to the development of critical thinking, independent learning approaches, and intercultural awareness in the educational process. The article also notes that incorporating audiovisual resources into the study of literary materials increases students’ motivation and enhances the effectiveness of lessons.
As a result, the use of literary texts in German language instruction creates a linguistically and culturally rich learning environment for students and makes a significant contribution to the overall goals of foreign language learning
